GRWT Ships First Batch of Trolley Wheel and Roller Assemblies for Hyundai & ZPMC Quay Cranes in Panama

Sept20, 2026

Shanghai Gerunwan Technology Co., Ltd. (GRWT) has dispatched the first shipment of a major running-gear renewal program covering four quay cranes — two Hyundai and two ZPMC QC25/QC26 units — operating at a container terminal in Panama at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal.

This first batch supplies the complete set of running-gear components for one Hyundai quay crane — 26 sets in three export wooden cases, 2,205 kg gross (net 2,160 kg). In total, the program covers 116 sets for all four cranes, with the second batch of 90 sets — including all components for the two ZPMC cranes and the remaining Hyundai crane — scheduled to follow.

Scope of the First Shipment

The 26-set batch comprises, per GRWT drawing numbers:

  • Trolley Wheel Assemblies (GRWT-HYPPC-001) — 4 sets

  • Horizontal Roller Assemblies (GRWT-HYPPC-002) — 4 sets

  • Bracket Trolley Wheel Assemblies (GRWT-HYPPC-003) — 8 sets

  • Counter Roller Assemblies with Bracket (GRWT-HYPPC-004) — 2 sets

  • Horizontal Rollers without Bracket (GRWT-HYPPC-005) — 8 sets

Engineering First: Site Survey and Drawing Development

The project began on site. With no complete original drawings available for these decades-old Hyundai and ZPMC QC cranes, GRWT's engineers carried out field surveying and measurement at the terminal, then consolidated and refined the full set of manufacturing drawings for both crane makes based on the actual on-site conditions. Each trolley wheel, roller and bracket was dimensioned from this field data, and the GRWT drawing series (HYPPC / ZYPPC) was released for machining only after full verification — the critical first step that guarantees drop-in interchangeability with the original running gear.

Precision Machining from Forged Blanks

Production began with forged blanks machined on horizontal lathes. Each trolley wheel, roller shaft, flange and spacer was turned, bored and ground to the drawing tolerances, with strict control of hub bore diameter, tread profile and flange runout — the dimensions that decide how smoothly the crane trolley travels on the rail.

Quality Inspection at Every Stage

Before painting, every machined component was dimensionally inspected. After assembly, the painted surfaces were verified with a digital coating-thickness gauge — readings of around 300 µm confirmed the marine-grade protective coating meets the corrosion-protection requirement of the tropical, high-humidity environment of the Panama Canal zone.

Assembly and Export Packing

Finished wheel assemblies — complete with machined shafts, bearings and bolted flange hubs — were fitted, checked and then individually preserved and packed. Large trolley wheel assemblies were secured upright in reinforced plywood export cases, while rollers and matching hardware were packed in layered compartments with bubble-wrap and cardboard protection to eliminate any movement in transit.

Urgent Air Freight to Keep the Crane Running

With the crane urgently needed back in service, the terminal could not wait for ocean freight. GRWT arranged expedited air freight for the entire first batch at significant cost to itself, putting the customer's downtime ahead of margin. All three wooden cases were trucked from Shanghai and loaded for direct flight to Panama — cutting a sea journey of more than a month down to days, so the wheel assemblies reach the maintenance team while the crane is still down for overhaul. The second batch for the two ZPMC QC25/26 cranes and the remaining Hyundai unit is already in GRWT's production pipeline.

This project demonstrates GRWT's full-process, turn-key capability: on-site surveying and measurement → drawing design → manufacturing → quality control → export delivery to the terminal → coordination with the site construction crew for on-site installation and modification. From the first tape measurement on the crane to the wheel assemblies running on the rail, a single accountable partner manages the entire chain.

GRWT specializes in reverse-engineering and remanufacturing spare parts for legacy port equipment, including ZPMC, Hyundai, Konecranes, Noell and other crane makes, with proven deliveries to terminals across Latin America, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
